In the book "State 2-The story of my marriage", Chetan Bhagat has done an absolutely excellent job in dissecting the psyche of the modern Indian middle class family and brilliantly told in fiction the very real problems people go through and among caste / religion / religious / state marriages take place. Relationships are built. Lives put his head. Humongous efforts are made to achieve even a semblance of acceptance. Relationships are broken. Sometimes they stay dead, and sometimes (fortunately) things sorted and finally love triumphs, as Bhagat's character in 2 states witness.

Born a quiet, reserved father, she is closest to him, while she and her mother have a frustrating it interesting relationship. She also has a bookworm of a brother or sister, whose only purpose in life seems to be more of a bookworm and any graduate of the top ranking institutions in the country.

Amid tumultuous family issues, angry professors, loads of study material and raging hormones, the two meet, fall in love for many discussions, study periods, many chicken and chai. When she graduated and accept their respective positions, their relationship develops into a of the entire effort and corresponding non-acceptance of the respective families.

Bhagat then collapsed in knitting and weaving his way through their respective lives and the various attempts to make them both to please the other family. After many emotional changes and a break, he gives the story a wonderful twist that I certainly was not expected. It suffices to say, the novel ends with a happy-Tamil-Punjabi wedding a fanciful scenario North meets South, which brings a warm feeling heart and a smile.

As author, Chetan Bhagat has taken risks with any language that can not go with the oldies, but the book is aimed at the youth of India anyways. And they relate to him. He has quickly become a youth icon and his efforts to achieve a change in the narrow mentality of our people are begging for young Indians to marry outside their caste the feeling of the Indian government and not conducive to one's own caste bound, promises some very positive change in the province.
